Where would we be without Friends?
The Friends as Grantmakers...
The Friends of The Seattle Public Library organization was founded in 1941, the same year The Seattle Public Library celebrated its 50th anniversary.
Today, a key aspect of the Friends’ mission is the same as when it was founded – helping our public libraries by providing additional funding for collections and special projects. Friends of The Seattle Public Library revenues come from:
Memberships
- Twice-yearly Book Sales
- FriendShop sales at the Central Library
In addition to large and small grants to the Library, the Friends of The Seattle Public Library occasionally provide grants to neighborhood Friends groups. Currently there are active neighborhood Friends chapters at the Beacon Hill, North East and Southwest branches. The members of these chapters are great advocates for The Seattle Public Library and these small grants help them conduct their neighborhood activities. See our grant guidelines and our gifts to The Library since 2004.
