The Friends of the Seattle Public Library is a non-profit, grassroots organization dedicated to promoting our Library as an essential institution of our society. Our volunteer members advocate, educate, and raise funds on behalf of the Library, its patrons, and the larger Seattle community.
Friends are ambassadors to the community. Members help share the news about how many important programs and services the Library provides, in addition to its collections. The libraries that were improved and expanded by Libraries For All now have meeting rooms, more space for collections, and programs that benefit many patrons, including homework help, story times, summer reading programs, computer classes, author readings, book clubs and English language support, just to name a few. Friends also actively advocate for adequate funding for collections, operations, and services, by attending public budget hearings and by writing letters to the mayor and the city council in support of library resources.
