2005 Grants
In 2005, the Friends of The Seattle Public Library donated $250,000 to The Seattle Public Library Foundation to support the following programs:
$50,000 for an orientation video for patrons with limited English proficiency
The Friends of The Seattle Public Library donation enables this project to move to completion.
$100,000 for enhancements to the newly renovated Douglass-Truth Branch Library
The Friends' support enhances the furnishings in the children's area and the community meeting room as part of the branch expansion. Funds will also benefit the African American collection now and into the future. This gift will leverage another $25,000 in private donations via The Seattle Public Library Foundation's
Books for Branches campaign.
$100,000 for the Seattle Room Endowment
The Seattle Room at the Central Library is a center for local history. The Friends’ contribution helps build a permanent income source for the project.
Â
In addition to large grants to the Library, the Friends of The Seattle Public Library occasionally provide grants to neighborhood Friends groups. Currently there are active neighborhood Friends chapters at the Beacon Hill, North East and Southwest branches. The members of these chapters are great advocates for The Seattle Public Library and these small grants help them conduct their neighborhood activities.
